Okay so yeah because of a certain Tumblr image (from here, one amazing tumblr) of Vriska as Spidergirl, I've been trying to mentally cross over what superheroes the Homestuck peeps would be. Some are obvious choices, some are tougher, and I would appreciate input as I am not an expert in superheroes. And lazy. So, the list, and I will edit in what people suggest:

Vriska- Spiderwoman/Arachne (NOT spiderman; the superheroine Spiderwoman, aka Arachne, actually has some psyonic powers too which makes her pm perfect); alternatives: Domino or Roulette
Terezi- Daredevil (duh)
Karkat- Hawkgirl ([KEYBOARD]SMASH)
Aradia- Starfire?
Tavros- Captain Marvel, Jr.?
Sollux- Sage (kinda similar powers, and similar backstory to his ancestor); Sunspot ('cause their outfits match. idk he's hard.)
Nepeta- Catwoman
Equius- [sp] Iron Man (building robots and things), Thor (strong)
Kanaya- crack superheroines: Vampirella, Jubilee
Gamzee- Hulk?
Eridan- Aquaman (the really serious soulless one that no one likes), Namor
Feferi- Mera; Aspen Matthews

John- Cyclone? (air manip and cheery disposition); [ash] fun Aquaman?
Jade- [sp] Zatanna (yesss)
Dave- The Flash (because a) attitude, and b) evidently some of them can time travel); Silver Surfer?
Rose- Cloak & Dagger (both of them together yes, look up their powers)
Roxie- Shadow-lass?; Ms. Marvel??; Darkstar????
Dirk- John Stewart Green Lantern?; Huntress?; Lex Luthor (oh you know it matches)

NOW GIVE ME YOUR THOUGHTS and do the rest of the work for me. :I

...I hadn't even thought about the fact that this would be your perfect crossover if you read hamsteak. Consider it incentive. 8)

curse you very much, devious one!

Equius -> I am debating between Iron Man and Thor. Thor because Equius is STRONG, and Iron Man because Equius is also very much into building robots and. Things.

Jade -> Zatanna? IDEK.

Fuck man this is hard.

Maybe John could be the fun Aquaman from Batman: The Brave and the Bold? It's not a very good power overlap, and for all his ridiculousness I don't generally think of John as being bombastic -- but I feel that if any superhero were going to take a break from his heroic quest to passionately reenact the climax of his favorite movie, there's a good chance it would be Aquaman.

I'm saying this from a position of 90% ignorance but never let it be said that I wasn't there for you in your time of need.

Hey I'd buy it! Trade water for wind and we'd have a winner. c:

I'm doing well enough, I guess. I'm still trying to get some anxiety issues under control, but other than (and partially because of) that, I don't have any big news.

I did finally claw my way to the top of my family's Scrabble hierarchy, though. So there's that!

wait, no, scratch that; the most dramatic thing that's happened to me lately isn't becoming Scrabble empress, it's stumbling into the middle of tumblr's lorax movie meltdown

I don't know how a day that started with me reading about dionysus & apollo's areas of cultic and philosophical interdependence ended with me reading someone's ironic protest porn starring the onceler

why is this happening to me

why am I doing this to myself

why is there so much charmed delight mixed in with my stunned horror

aren't you glad I'm talking to you again

No anxiety issues, bad. :( This is a war you can win! Fight the power!

Congrats on being Scrabble Empress, though! What sealed your victory? Was it the word 'exoskeleton', or something equally fantabulous?

And...How in the hell did you manage that shift of topics? Okay, so I have read/watched videos explaining how the Lorax fails as an adaptation of its source material AND as a standalone movie, but I am curious as to how the hell this led into..uh.."ironic protest porn."

(and I'm always glad to hear from you ♥)

Ahhhhh, I'm so sorry for the 100% predictable delay! I've been running around to different doctor's appointments trying to find out what's going on with my optic nerves (with the tentative diagnosis that they're probably just weird but otherwise okay).

I am ashamed to report that it was not a particularly fantabulous word, just one that was worth 127 points, which I have decided to feel good about even though hardcore Scrabble people would probably yawn at it. Then I drew vowel-only hands for the next three turns and managed to coax triple-word scores out of two of them, which is probably more a case of good luck and cosmic comedy than actual skill, but it's ushered in a long period of me winning 90% of our games and getting to use all seven letters in a turn more times in the last month than in the whole previous 22.5 years of my life, so I'll take it.

My explanation of the Onceler blow-up is turning out to be a lot longer than anyone could ever reasonably want it to be, so stay tuned and brace yourself for my master's thesis on people's opinions about other people's opinions about The Lorax.

...."Just" a 127 point Scrabble word. I do not think that word means what you think it means. But nice going! I always loved it when I could use all the letters (which has happened a grand total of..maybe twice). My family does not play enough Scrabble, perhaps I will introduce Ian to it this afternoon.

Hooooo boy. Although, I will say, I grew up with the cartoon version from the...70s? 80s? so any sort of annoyance with the film seems entirely justified in my rose-colored child's memory.

I went in for a retinal check-up and they thought that one of my optic nerves (this time in the good eye) looked a little swollen, but when I went to see a neurologist I didn't have any of the symptoms you would expect from someone with an optic nerve problem. I'll go in again in May to see if anything's changed, but for right now the assumption is that I'm probably fine.

I was actually really proud of that score, and then I made the mistake of looking up the highest recorded single-word Scrabble scores online out of curiosity.

(appropriate icon is appropriate) Well that's...encouraging. Maybe we should look into fitting you with robotically enhanced parts or something. I'm thinking eyeballs and possibly extendable lower legs for those hard-to-reach cupboards. ;)

I didn't even know oxyphenbutazone was a word. Man, people must be really into reading the dictionary if they're competitive Scrabble players.

I had a dream last night where you, Rachel, Holly, Kendra and I were all going out to see a movie together. I miss you.

I miss you too.

On a related note, I've finally rigged up a system that will let me access my family's internet on my own computer, which means I can have uninterrupted chats with you guys now that I've moved off our shared desktop! So I ought to start pestering you more sometime soon.
Apr. 25th, 2012 09:43 pm (UTC)
..You know what this means? This means we can have a chat party RIGHT NOW. although we won't because it is almost dindin. D'you have any evenings that wouldn't work for chattimes within the next week?
Apr. 26th, 2012 08:20 am (UTC)
I have another retinal exam next Wednesday and my eyes will stay artificially dilated until pretty late in the evening, so that's not a good day for trying to focus on a computer screen. As far as I know right now, though, any other evening this or next week should work just fine!

I might just get online and stay there most evenings (or..as best I can; I work until 10 this Saturday, and next Sun, Mon, Wed, and Fri) then, and we can have a fun talk party whenever we want! Uh..remind me which chat client you use? I'm connecting via Pidgin, so I have to manually enable a couple of my accounts.
Apr. 26th, 2012 11:40 pm (UTC)
Augh, scratch that last comment, I'm having trouble getting AIM to work on this computer. Can your Pidgin account work with Skype chatting? I think Skype's my most easily-functional option at the moment.

Sorry for my general ineptitude.
